Blue Race
If you are Mexican Latino, and Hispanic; do you belong to the White or Brown race?
One person who works for the US census told me that only Anglos fit in the white race category, and all non anglos must choose other races like the brown race, yellow race, red race, blue race, tan race, pink race or Nigro race, this last one as stated in the US census forms. Is it true?
I filled out our census yesterday and I didn't see that it had blue or pink on there. I see the point you are trying to make though. I did see that they completely separated Hispanic and Latino from all of the other races. They specifically ask if you are Hispanic or Latino, and then if you answer no to this question, the next question is what your race is (White, Black/African American/Negro, American Indian/Alaska native, Asian Indian, Filipino, etc.)
My theory is that they are trying to crack down on illegal immigrants and that is why they separate Hispanic from all of the other races. Sucks for Latino people, especially for those who are actual citizens because they are still going to be in a completely different category on the census (and thus watched more closely probably).
Oh, also when I filled out my job application (working for the city I live in) they ask the same question-- whether you are of Hispanic origin or not. It's all very fishy...
Of course, they could also just be collecting information on the influx of Hispanic people to the United States for population information and statistics. I've learned not to trust my government though.
