Key Card
When should a teenager be able to get a key card for his savings?
Here's the story:
I'm close to 16 years old and started work roughly 5/6 months ago. I have saved close to three grand and I wish to access this money (via key card) for things such as shoes, clothes etc. I believe I am responsible and will not go ballistic with this money, spending it all on useless items, I just wish to buy small things that I want, and not have to live off my parents 'chump change'. What is your opinion on the matter?
Tough call. But you do sound responsible. It would depend on whether or not it's your parents who aren't letting you get the card. If it is, what is the reason? Perhaps they can allowance you some money off of your earnings. Maybe let you access $50 a week or something. It's really better to save your money. I know that when I was a teen and got access to my bank account at 18, I went nutso and spent money on just a lot of stupid things like a soda here, a candy bar there...never saved anything really worth noting.
As a sidebar: are your parents still willing to pay for your shoes and clothes? If they are, then let them! Trust me, when you get older people don't do that for you anymore. 
Then you can keep your $3K for something else. Like maybe a car later on.
